Arts and Crafts Mailbox – White Oak, Walnut and Padauk – 2007

With David Rae, for Anna Garwood

A Stickley reproduction.  The bright red wood is paddock, the amazing vibrant tones are natural.  I love the period feel of this piece.  This was also my first time working with oak.  I may have applied one coat to many of poly-urthene in fear of Oregon’s rainy season.

The flower shape was cut with a coping saw, and slowly worked with sandpaper to the correct dimensions.  There is a small groove in the bottom of the mailbox to allow drainage.
